IMI is the annual municipal property tax on owners. IMT is the tax on buying a home. Neither replaces a rental contract or a recibo. New arrivals mix the acronyms in group chats. If you are renting, ask for a written lease and receipts. If you are buying, an official notary and the tax office pages are the map, start at portaldasfinancas.gov.pt.
