Loja do Cidadão: what to bring
A Loja do Cidadão groups several public services under one roof: tax, social security, and other state desks depending on the site. Porto’s shop is a common stop for new arrivals who need more than one stamp in the same morning.
Book before you queue
Many desks still want an appointment. Check the official booking page for the service you need (Finanças, Segurança Social, or the Loja itself) and screenshot the confirmation. Turning up “for everything” without a slot is how people leave with only a coffee.
A bag that works
- Passport or residence document.
- NIF card or the paper printout if that is what you have.
- Proof of address when the desk asks for it.
- A phone that receives Portuguese SMS for Chave Móvel Digital codes.
- A power bank, mornings run long.
The digital key itself is explained in The digital mobile key. NIF steps are in Getting a NIF in Porto.
Language
Some clerks speak English; many prefer Portuguese. A short written note of what you need (“pedir NIF”, “abrir atividade”, “atualizar morada”) on your phone saves the counter from charades.
