Zona Azul (and similar paid street parking) means you pay for a limited stay via meter or the city’s parking app. Read the sign for hours and maximum time. For residents, many councils offer a cheaper or free permit tied to your address and vehicle — you apply with proof of residence and the car documents.
Private garages and condo spaces are separate from street rules. Do not assume a visitor bay is free overnight.

Fines escalate if ignored. Pay or contest within the deadline on the notice.
Tourist areas fill early. Park-and-ride plus metro often costs less nerves than hunting a spot in the Baixa.
