If I rent a car at Porto airport, how do the tolls get paid?

I land at Francisco Sá Carneiro and I want a car for a week, including a drive to Braga. I have read that some motorways have no booth and that tourists get fined later.

Ask the rental desk, before you drive out, whether the car has a Via Verde tag and whether tolls are billed on the card you already gave them. The airport exit puts you onto roads that charge. The A28 along the coast, the A3 toward Braga and Valença, and the A4 east all do. Some stretches have no person in a booth. The fine for paying late costs more than the toll.

The longer explanation, without a price that would be wrong next month, is in Tolls when you drive north. If the desk says the tag is extra, decide there, not at the gantry.
