How do I put electricity, water and gas in my name in Porto?
I just got the keys. The utilities are still in the previous tenant’s name. What do I do?

For electricity, find the CPE code on a bill or the meter, then switch or open a contract with a supplier (EDP, Galp, Endesa, Goldenergy, Iberdrola and others). You will need NIF, ID, IBAN and the address. For water, contact the municipal company for your council (Porto, Gaia, Matosinhos differ). For piped gas, use the CPE/CUI on the bill the same way.
If the landlord keeps contracts in their name, agree in writing how you repay them and ask to see real bills. See also utilities in the landlord’s name.

Take clear meter photos on move-in day. That number settles arguments later.
Social tariffs exist for eligible households — ask the supplier, do not assume automatic enrolment.
