Do I need a certified electrician to change a fuse box in Portugal?

Solved3 answers

My landlord says I can “just swap the quadro”. Is that legal or wise?

  1. Accepted answer

No. Work on the quadro elétrico, the meter, or new circuits belongs to a licensed electrician. Bad wiring is a fire and insurance problem. Ask for a quote, the technician’s company details, and a written description of the work. Keep photos before and after.

  2. For a single broken socket, a licensed electrician is still the right call if you are not trained. Turning off the correct breaker first is basic safety — if you cannot label the board, do not open it.

  3. If the flat is rented, agree in writing who pays: owner for building-side faults, tenant for misuse. That split should be in the lease.
