Do I file IRS in my first partial year in Portugal?

Solved1 answer

I became tax resident in September. Friends say I can skip the next spring filing because the year was short. Is that true?

A short calendar year does not automatically mean “no return”. What matters is whether Portugal treats you as tax resident for that year and what income you had here and abroad. Many first-year residents still file, sometimes with different annexes, sometimes with a shorter period inside the form. The Portal das Finanças and a certified accountant are where that call is made for your numbers, not a group chat.
