I have a high fever and it is Sunday. I do not have a family doctor yet. Friends say the hospital will send me home if I did not call SNS 24.

If you are struggling to breathe, fainting, have chest pain, a sudden weakness on one side, or a seizure, call 112 and go. For a fever that is miserable but not that, call SNS 24 on 808 24 24 24 first. They are the public service’s front door and they will tell you to stay home, to see a doctor, or to use an emergency department. Turning up at São João or Santo António without that call is how Sunday becomes a long wait for something a phone could sort.

A pharmacy is for medicines, not for deciding whether you are safe. The way to find the one that is open is in The pharmacy open tonight. The hospitals are named in When you are ill in Porto.
