Food and going out
A francesinha without the queue theatre
Eat the sandwich as lunch. Skip the performance of waiting for a camera.

The francesinha is a Porto lunch: bread, meat, cheese and a hot sauce that stains a napkin. Tour buses treat it as a checklist. Locals treat it as a plate that fills you for the afternoon.
If you want the sandwich, go on a weekday before noon or after the lunch peak. Café Santiago on Passos Manuel is one room people still name; our places page for it is Café Santiago, for a francesinha. Order one plate, not a tasting flight of three for Instagram.
Matosinhos is the other direction when you want fish instead of sauce. That story belongs to the grill houses, not to a sandwich queue.
