EU citizens: registering your residence in Porto

If you are an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen staying more than three months, Portugal expects you to register your residence. In Porto that conversation sits with the Câmara Municipal (often through a Loja do Cidadão path), not with a paid “fixer” in a group chat.

What people usually take

Passport or national ID, proof of address (lease or similar), NIF, and proof of work, self-employment, study or sufficient resources, depending on your situation. The exact list is the one on the official page the day you go. Print it.

Family members who are not EU citizens

They follow a different card route through AIMA. Do not mix the two queues in your head. See AIMA appointments.

After you have the paper

Keep a scan. Update the address on Finanças and Social Security when they ask. The certificate is boring paperwork that saves you worse paperwork later.

Checked 28 October 2026. Rules and desks move. If gov.pt, AIMA, Finanças or the Câmara disagree with this page, follow them.
