Braga and Guimarães by train

Braga and Guimarães are the two easy cities north of Porto, and both have urban trains from São Bento and from Campanhã. The ride is on the order of an hour. The board at the station is the timetable. Weekday frequency is decent. Sunday is thinner. Tickets are on the CP app or at the window. The Andante is for the Porto network, not a substitute for reading the Braga fare.
In Braga the station is in the city, below the old centre. The Bom Jesus sanctuary is up the hill, outside that walk. It is a city bus or a taxi, not the train. In Guimarães the castle and the palace of the Dukes of Bragança are in the centre, uphill from the station, and they are the reason most people get off.
Both cities are also a drive on the A3 or the A7, which means a toll. If the point is to avoid that, take the train. Come back on a train that exists that evening. Do not leave it to the last one without looking.
