A leak in your cistern is your call. A leak in the pipe that serves the building is often the condomínio’s. Ask the building manager before you hire someone, or you will pay twice. The same split applies to a socket in your flat and the supply that feeds the stairwell.

When you do call a tradesperson, ask the price of the visit before they leave their workshop. In Porto that call-out is a real number, and it is due even if you then decide not to do the job. Ask for the price of the repair before the work starts, in a message you can keep. Do not pay the whole job in advance. Pay when the water stays in the pipe.

This page does not name a plumber. A Google rating above four stars is a start, and it is not a guarantee. Open the listing, read the recent reviews, and ignore a company that will not say the call-out price on the phone. Clinics with a published address are a different list, under Places.
