A free day: Ribeira, the gardens, Foz
A full day in Porto, on foot and one tram, without a group. None of the walks below need a ticket. Climbing the tower does.
Start at Ribeira. Walk the quay, then cross the lower deck of the Dom Luís I bridge to Gaia for the view back over the roofs. Come back the same way.
After lunch, the Crystal Palace gardens, on Rua de D. Manuel II, are free to enter. The park is the point, not a museum shop.
If the weather holds, take the riverside tram toward Foz and get off at the promenade. The sea is the Atlantic, not the river. Walk as far as you like and come back by the same tram. Check the stop board: the line and the last tram of the day are printed there.
Clérigos Tower, on Rua dos Clérigos, is the climb with a ticket. The square at the bottom is free.
