OpenAI Images 2.6: faster generation and one-step GIFs
About 50% faster image generation, GIF creation in ChatGPT, and Flare / Sunburst models in the API.
OpenAI’s Images 2.6 landed on 4 November 2026 in ChatGPT, Codex and the API. The company says image generation is about 50% faster, with stronger consistency when you edit the same character or product across rounds. ChatGPT can now turn a prompt or sketch into an animated GIF.
Developers get GPT-Image-2.6 Flare for speed and Sunburst for higher-detail work, plus markup-guided edits and SVG export in the API. OpenAI also published a system card for the safety stack around the new GIF and editing features.
