Renting a car in Porto

Most visitors pick up at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. Almost every brand sits a short shuttle ride from arrivals, not inside the terminal hall. Follow the branded signs on the pavement; do not pay a stranger who offers a “faster desk”.

What to take

Driving licence (EU licence is usually enough; some non-EU licences need an International Driving Permit), passport or ID, and a credit card in the main driver’s name. Debit cards are refused more often than the booking email admits.

Read the small print

• Excess (franquia) if something scrapes.
• Fuel policy: full-to-full is the sane default.
• Young driver or second driver fees.
• Whether the airport night return is free or locked.

Hertz and others also sit in town (for example Santa Catarina / Ramalde). Useful if you already live here and need a weekend car without the airport shuttle.
